Different Yoga Breathing Techniques

There are numerous yoga breathing techniques. The following videos present a few of them and explain how to practice them properly.

The first technique presented is the 4-7-8 Breathing pattern. The exercise is very simple, and suitable for almost anyone. It takes less than 3 minutes to repeat four cycles. You can do the exercise in any position.

Place the tip of your tongue against the ridge of tissue just behind your upper front teeth, and keep it there throughout the entire exercise. Before starting a cycle, exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound.

  1. Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose, mentally counting to four.
  2. Hold your breath for a count of seven.
  3. Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound to the count of eight.

Now inhale again and repeat the cycle three more times, for a total of four breaths.
